Flawless Brows Gadget Review: How and if it actually works — Project Vanity (1)

I’m sure you’ve seen the ads following you all over the Internet, so let me satisfy your curiosity a bit. I bought the Flawless Brows Eyebrow Trimmer (P999 for two at Glitzy Chic) a couple weeks ago online because I was dying to know if it worked. My quarantine brows have of course realized a life of their own so I needed a quick fix, quicker than my trusty tweezers. Now the good news is yes, the Flawless Brows gadget does work, although perhaps not in the way most people would think.

First things first: this is not an epilator, which pulls hair from the root. This is actually a conveniently packaged razor that clips the hair as you pass over it. That means that there’s zero pain as the rotating razor (kind of like a blender) is inside the metal tip; the hair that gets inside the metal slats basically gets ground down into black dust. Gross? Yes. Although I admit it’s kinda cool to see powdered hair when you open up the tip for cleaning (that’s why there’s a white brush in the box with it)!

Anyway, this is easy enough to use although there is a bit of a learning curve in the beginning. My advice is to press the metal tip to your skin so that it catches the hair; you will also need to clean up big areas where there’s hair growth around and between the brows. If you need to shape the brows though by removing specific bits of hair, you will be better off with a tweezer or a pair of tiny scissors.

Since Flawless Brows is not an epilator, expect that the hair will grow back fast since you’re really only cutting it at skin level, not at the roots. Will your hair grow back thicker? It might feel thick since you’re cutting from a thicker part of the hair shaft but it is the same hair you’ve always had. So, no.

Let me summarize my thoughts.

Why I like the Flawless Brows Eyebrow Trimmer:

  • It works faster than tweezing in removing brow hair in larger area sizes.

  • It’s painless, unlike waxing or threading. I personally don’t like using naked razors near my eyes too.

  • The size of the gadget is just about as big as a mascara, so it’s a convenient quick fix.

  • The packaging is nice and sleek.

  • It comes with a tough cleaning brush for the razor.

  • There are super clear instructions in the single page manual inside.

What I don’t like about it:

  • There are no batteries included. Bummer. In case you’re wondering, you detach the product from the middle to stick the single triple A battery in.

  • You can only buy two, there’s no option for a single box on Glitzy Chic. I don’t really need two boxes of this, but I suppose others can find someone to split it with.

  • While the packaging looks pretty, it’s not the most sturdy plastic out there.

  • It can’t create a finer shape since the tip is still too bulky for detail work.

  • There’s a light at the tip when it’s on, but it’s very weak.

So who is this for?

  • People who don’t like tweezing, shaving, waxing, or threading fine facial hair. I also use this for my femstache - so convenient!

  • Those who need to quickly clean up the hair growth. It’s still best to pull hair from the roots but if there’s no time, then shaving with Flawless Brows is convenient.

I hope this review helps you decide! Let me know if you’ve tried this, and what you think of it.

Eyebrows, as we know by now, can make or break our look. We all have a go-to style that we love for our face, but I think that we should also explore different brow looks just to change things up! I like doing different shapes according to the vibe I’m going for the day, and one of the best ways to do that is with a brow pomade like the Barenbliss Like A Pro Brow Pomade.

A quick-and-dirty guide for different eyebrow makeup types to try

Abiele Bernardo

Have you heard the saying “Your eyebrows are sisters and not twins”? Well, grooming my brows was one of the makeup steps I had a really tough time learning. From being heavy-handed to not knowing how to properly shape my brows, it was a rough process to try to get them to look like cousins - let alone siblings.

Seven years into my makeup journey, I would like to think I have gotten better at it, especially now that we have so many products and styles to try and choose from!

The Case for Semi-Permanent Makeup: My Ombré Brows experience

Carol RH Malasig

My life has been a constant quest of streamlining everything. I’m the first person to sign up for anything that can help get things done in a more efficient manner. Even my daily makeup routine is not exempted from this. I love putting on makeup and experimenting with it but on some days, those 24 hours just seem to be going way too fast. So when I got the opportunity to eliminate one step from my routine by getting my eye brows tattooed, I was all for it.

Spotlight Cosmetics: A new makeup line under P500 for Filipinas who want to create pro looks

Liz Lanuzo

There’s a new local makeup line in town called Spotlight and I’m here to walk you through it! This is a pretty extensive line, which is great, because it even has some interesting eye makeup formulations. Everything is under P500 so it’s quite affordable. Still, this is targeted for those looking to level up their makeup collection as it has that pro MUA vibe to it (at least to me). You can check it out in Lazada and Shopee online.

Let’s see what Spotlight has to offer!

The Eyeliner Effect: Is the “new normal” heavy on the eyes?

Guest Writer

In times of massive uncertainty and change such as the one we live in now, economists have noticed a behavior called the Lipstick Effect. This describes how consumers still tend to buy small luxury items (like premium cosmetics and trips to the cinema) during recessions or when they personally do not have much cash. Makeup doesn’t stop being a mood booster when things go south, so we don’t stop trying to be beautiful despite our situation.

It's easy to be universally fresh with Blk's Universal 2.0 collection

Liz Lanuzo

Project Vanity writer Firas Abboud declared in his story, “Makeup knows no gender, so every makeup product is technically universal.” I can’t agree more! I think everyone should not be judged when they wear cosmetics, no matter how they identify, or their age, or how their body is. Everyone is allowed to be more beautiful in all the ways that make them feel so! I think that’s why local brand blk Cosmetics, Anne Curtis and Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez’s brain child, hit a nerve when they launched the first Universal collection last year.
